Well, you’ve come to the right place.
Hi, I’m Amber. Your self-love guide. After a few dissatisfying romantic relationships, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I’ve been dating myself for 5 years now. And I’ve never felt more happy, balanced and at peace than I’ve been in the time I’ve been committed to myself.
I think it is great that nowadays there is more attention for self-care and self-love. However, self-love has become such a buzzword, and I think a lot of people don’t really know where to start. I once did a ‘Healthy Self-love’ workshop which was essentially a visualising meditation. I enjoyed it, but afterwards one of the women in the room asked: “Okay, but what exactly is self-love and how do you start?” The woman who led the meditation answered in a breathy, soft voice that love is not something we have to do, but just be. Because we already are love. And yeah, sure, in an ideal world we would only have to breathe and imagine a beautiful pink light around us to actually feel love, but we don’t. Most of us live in a culture that perpetrates feelings of lack, comparing and insecurity. In that world, we probably need a little more to go on than ‘just being love’.
And that’s why I started this new blog. To break the big, vague (and perhaps scary) concept of self-love down into digestible pieces, in a practical way. Because I believe love is something you do. And just like anything else you want to get better at, you have to practice it. So every post will explore a specific theme, practical examples and a little exercise at the end. And all these little pieces will hopefully help you to build the foundation you need to truly feel a deep love for yourself and others.
So good luck practising, but mostly: have fun!
(self-)Love,
Amber
